NEUTRAL EYESHADOW: TOP 5 PALETTES

In college I experimented a lot with makeup and I really loved trying different color eyeshadows. You would often find me wearing bright purple or turquoise. Although I still love adding color here and there, I've edited my makeup collection down to a few classics. I often wear neutral makeup colors during the week for work and reserve bright colors for the weekend. Luckily for me (and you!), nearly every cosmetic brand has introduced a line of neutral eyeshadows. I have shared my top 5 palettes above. Each palette flatters every skin tone and can be used to achieve several different looks.

1 //Smashbox "Fade to Black Photo Op" Eyeshadow Palette
2 // NARS "Ride Up to the Moon" Eyeshadow Palette
3 // Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette (Naked 1 + Naked 3)
4 // Bobbi Brown "Nectar & Nude" Eye Palette
5 // bareMinerals "7 Ways to Bare" Set (Vol 2. Set)

COLORFULLY CHIC: ICE BLUE

On this installment of Colorfully Chic, I decided to post about a color that I'm starting to see pop up everywhere. If I could my least favorite color, I would pick light blue. I've never really liked the color and used to find it very boring. Now with pastels ruling this upcoming Spring, I'm started to see a lot of pieces in the gorgeous color. Now I love how opulent and fresh the color looks. I've found some pretty, powder blue things below:

SAKS FIFTH AVENUE: BEAUTY BLOGGER COCKTAIL PARTY

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending a Beauty Blogger Cocktail Party at Saks Fifth Avenue here in Raleigh. We were offered a behind-the-scenes look at new fall makeup trends. We heard from insiders from awesome brands like Kiehls and Bobbi Brown. We also got a chance to go inside Saks' exclusive handbag room which houses every designer handbag that you have ever dreamed of. I have my eye on the red Givenchy Antigona bag.

SUMMER ESCAPE: CHARLESTON

One thing I love about summer is the chance to pack up and getaway for the weekend. I live for little summer escapes. One place I always try to go is Charleston, SC. My dad grew up in Charleston and several members of his (very large) family still live there. I love exploring the historic sites, eating the delicious food, and relaxing on Folly Beach. Here's what I'd throw in my suitcase for my trip to low country.

poolside: J.Crew retro bikini top and high-waist bottom //  Zara long fishbones earrings // Butter London "Molly Coddled" nail polish // Mar Y Sol baja woven tote // Tory Burch Luna tunic // Ray Ban folding wayfarer

exploring: J.Crew raffia stripe pant //  Gap leather tote // C. Wonder shark tooth studs // Zara sandals with tassels // Madewell scenic view top

brunch: Zara leather sandal // Rag & Bone norfolk dress // J.Crew panama hat // Jules Smith gold prism hoop earrings // Rebecca Minkoff skylar bag

JANELLE MONAE + COVERGIRL

Geeez! I love Janelle Monae! I love her music and she puts on one hell of a show! Her androgynous style is so simple and chic and look at that gorgeous face! Of course CoverGirl scooped her up to be one of their newest faces along with Pink. So. Psyched.

{ my favorite spring beauty trends }

My favorite polish in middle school was anything pastel. What's old is new again. Pastel polish is a more fun version of neutral nails and make you look super tan. Perfect for spring.

Try it:

When it comes to makeup this spring, I can't wait to wear bright lipstick and gloss! I have to admit I already am. Bright fuchsias, corals, and oranges are at the top of my kiss list!

Try it:

I often skip blush in the fall/winter in favor of my bronzer alone. I can't wait for spring to break out some bold blush for my cheeks. I love bright peaches and corals but I am really excited to try some hot pink!

Try it:

This is my favorite because I have naturally thick (and ridiculously curly) eyebrows. I've never liked the think overly-plucked look, especially on me. So put the tweezers down, pull out the brow pencils, and try this look out for spring!

Try it:

Last but not least, bronzed sun-kissed skin! When warm weather hits, my bronzer is my saving grace. If I could choose only one makeup item to use in a rush, it would be my bronzer with a little dabbed on my forehead, cheeks, and bridge of my nose. Done and done!

Try it:

What Spring makeup trends are you excited to try?

{ red carpet }

IFB Project #32 is to create your dream red carpet look. I was excited because no matter how many red carpet preshows I watch, I never actually think about what I would actually wear. Once I started thinking about it though, I came up with my look in a matter of seconds. Here's how I'd dress on the red carpet.

The dress is the most important part of any starlet's red carpet look. As much as I'm loving brights this season, I would want a neutral color. I love black and white. My dress would have to be either black, white, or both. With either of these neutrals, I could go with a very simple silhouette or something very detailed.

The jewelry is arguably the second most important part. Your jewels can play supporting actor or take the stage as the lead. I love bold jewelry and I'm absolutely loving all the emerald baubles I've been seeing on the red carpet lately. The beautiful green hue would be gorgeous against either black or white.

Hair. Hair. Hair. You have to have the right hair or your look won't flow. I must say, as much as I like a sleek ponytail or a gorgeous updo, I'm a sucker for bed head. I like when my hair looks effortless and that's how I would want to look on the red carpet.

When I'm on the red carpet I want dramatic makeup. It's not like I go to the grocery store with a smokey eye so the red carpet would give me the perfect opportunity to do it up! Smokey eye + nude lip = red carpet perfection. Let's be honest, no one does that look better than J.Lo.

The last thing I put on when I leave the house are my shoes and my purse. I love a good metallic heel and clutch. They're beautiful and glamorous and would go oh so well with my look.

Last but certainly not least, you have to have a hottie to accompany you on the red carpet.

A girl can dream...
